Billie and Kirk’s washing machine was on its last legs

Pensioners avoided hand washing with no interest loan

Billie and her husband Kirk found out about NILS through an occupational therapist who visited their home and noticed their washing machine was on its last legs. They applied for a NILS loan through Carers Queensland and were able to purchase a new washing machine. Kirk says that "the NILS loan saved our bacon. Without NILS we'd be down to hand- washing. We’re both pensioners with disabilities, and without NILS we would have had to get a loan with higher repayments which would have left us short for living expenses." "The new washing machine has made our lives much easier – we can put larger loads in and they come out dryer. It even plays a song to let us know it has finished – otherwise we wouldn’t know, it is so quiet!"
