Single dad not using milk crates as furniture thanks to NILS

Single Aboriginal dad Gavan and his seven-year old daughter Brianna were sitting on milk crates instead of couches and using plastic coolers to store their food.

Gavan was on a disability pension and his budget did not allow for anything other than essential food and clothing. He was going through a difficult time and had recently had a brain tumor removed.

For him, the no interest loan he received through Foresters Community Finance really was life changing. With a bit of luck Gavan found a major appliance sale, so he was able to purchase a fridge, couches, bed and mattress with the NILS loan.

His letter to the Queensland based NILS staff said "Thank you to all who were involved in providing our little family with the finance we so badly needed. We are now looking forward to the day we can throw away all our milk crates and eskys and start using real furniture and a fridge."

"As a single dad with only a pension it has been extremely difficult to get finance options. With the help from Foresters we can now officially call our house a home."

"You have shown me what finance with respect and a friendly smile looks like. As I walked out of the office with the cheques, I burst into tears. This means a great deal to Brianna and I."
