With 263 community organisations offering NILS and StepUP loans across Australia, Good Shepherd Microfinance’s network is as diverse as its client base. That’s why providing ongoing professional development for microfinance workers and volunteers is so important. It builds a well-trained, professional network, and ensures clients receive the same quality services and support regardless of where they live.

Good Learning is an award winning digital learning platform offering practical, collaborative and innovative learning and development to Good Shepherd Microfinance’s network.

It’s a platform where microfinance beginners can learn about our affordable loans, where program managers can learn about connecting with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and where Good Shepherd Microfinance can raise awareness of issues impacting clients, such as financial abuse.

New learning modules have been added regularly since Good Learning was launched in 2013, including:

  • Women and Money: an introduction to financial abuse
  • Budgeting with Good Shepherd Microfinance and ASIC’s Moneysmart
  • Working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • An introduction to social media
  • Volunteer management

Good Learning also features lively forums for peer to peer learning and support. On these forums microfinance workers and volunteers ask each other questions, share ideas, and brainstorm. They allow people to make the most of being part of an Australia wide community.

Good Shepherd Microfinance won an Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2015 Financial Literacy Australia Awards for Good Learning’s comprehensive financial abuse online training program ‘Women and Money: An Introduction to Financial Abuse’.
