Faith-based organisations do not support current Religious Discrimination Bill

We (GSANZ, Anglicare Victoria, JewishCare, Jesuit Social Services, McAuley Community Services for Women, Sacred Heart, and Uniting) represent a range of community service organisations with a faith background. We come from many different faiths and our organisations are formed, and operate, in different ways.    Our services work with some of Australia’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable people. Those who are homeless, suffer from hunger, loneliness, experience family violence, use drugs and alcohol. We also provide aged care, foster services for children, supports for people with disability and we run opportunity shops.

New alliance calls for urgent action on the mental health of women and girls

Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand has joined a new Women’s Mental Health Alliance to advocate for a stronger focus on the mental health of women and girls. Consumers, clinicians and community organisations have come together to demand more be done to address the specific mental health needs of women and girls.

With the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System under way, there is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for government to show that women’s and girls’ mental health matters and commit to funding a dedicated strategy to improve women’s mental health. This view has been endorsed by 28 organisations and released today in the form of a joint statement.

Creating a Community of Practice in Australia

Since 2016, members of Australia’s Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP) Program in Australia have been working together to address issues of financial inclusion and wellbeing in their respective spheres of influence. One of the key benefits of the program is the opportunity for members to join together in quarterly “Communities of Practice” meetings. These mini-conferences, hosted by our member organisations, bring together organisations from across the country, and from across multiple sectors to discuss key topics in financial inclusion and share lessons.
