NILS enables independence

David had worked as a boilermaker all his life until a heart condition forced him to stop work. He underwent triple bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack aged just 56.

After such a large surgery David was largely confined to his house, and was finding even basic daily tasks such as shopping too tiring. With no savings, private health insurance or family to support him, David was unable to buy a mobility scooter so that he could easily leave his home.

He approached Port Kembla Community Project Inc seeking assistance to buy a mobility scooter that he had found on Ebay. It cost more than the loan amount, but David had saved up the extra money. The scooter company provided good warranty, and the product has made a huge different to David’s life. He is now more independent and can participate in his local NSW community.
